Strengthening Global Research The Second Africa–Europe CoRE Conference

Published: 25th June 2026

From June 14-17, 2026, the University of Glasgow hosted the Second Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE) Conference. Our team leader, Bismarck Dinko, PhD, represented the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on the ARUA side as part of the CoRE AID (Advanced Infectious Diseases) as a partner.

The event was held alongside the Summit of the Vice-Chancellors and Presidents from the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (The Guild).

The conference brought together university leaders, researchers, and stakeholders from Africa and Europe for plenary sessions, strategic meetings, and workshops. The discussions focused on the role of universities in driving research, strengthening international partnerships, and developing collaborative approaches to global challenges.

The event marked three years of the Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE), providing an opportunity to review progress, strengthen collaborations, and explore new research opportunities. The conference also coincided with the 575th anniversary of the University of Glasgow and the 10th anniversary of The Guild, serving as a point of reflection for building equitable global partnerships.
